Time to move on. We took an Uber to the airport to pick up our rental car. Our driver, Tony, was a great guy—he's getting married in November and planning a honeymoon to the US, starting in Vegas.
Getting the car was seamless, and we hit the road. We stopped in a small town called Skradin for some great coffee. Actually, everywhere here has the best coffee.
The drive to Rovinj was beautiful, with lush countryside, evergreen trees, farms, fields, and charming old towns. When we arrived, our host Jovico met us with a golf cart to drive us into the city since no cars are allowed there. We upgraded to a suite with two bedrooms and an upper living area with a spacious deck overlooking the water. Bliss! Definitely a good choice.
We visited a little cliffside bar called Mediterraneo—stunning with lots of character. Then, we had dinner on a lovely patio at a restaurant called San Croce.
The next day, after a delicious breakfast and fabulous coffee, we set out for a 10k walk around the city and along the shoreline. We wandered into the ultra-contemporary Rovinj Grand Park Hotel for another coffee—one of the most stunning architectural spaces we've seen. It's perched on the edge of a beautiful peninsula park with massive green spaces, cedar groves, white stone beach clubs, and lookouts.
Afterward, we headed back to our room to relax before visiting the Cathedral. James climbed the bell tower, but Todd couldn't finish because the stairs were see-through again. We'll get him to the top of a bell tower by the end of this trip!
Next, we returned to our favorite oceanfront bar and later found a charming alley restaurant for dinner. The food here is consistently excellent, and we're finding our culinary favorites. James loves pasta, I go for salad and risotto, and Todd enjoys caprese and fish. Sharing has become our trend. :)
