May 20th started off with another amazing breakfast from Elenka at Hotel April 1550. After, we took one last look at the beautiful river and city before heading to the car which was parked outside the pedestrian only town center.
Our first stop was Škofja Loka, a charming historic town about 45 minutes away. We climbed up to the castle on the hill, but it was closed. Still, we had a great time wandering through the village.
Next, we drove through the stunning countryside towards Lake Bled. The scenic and thin back roads took us through the beautiful town of Dražgoše, where we stopped at a World War II memorial. We passed through Jamnik and Kropa before reaching Lake Bled.
With rain in the forecast, we decided to visit Vintgar Gorge a day early. The gorge was deep with walk ways that hugged the cliffs and we found ourselves asking… how can BC do this? The hike back, which took about an hour, included a stop at a lovely family-run outdoor tavern and beautiful “dream” farm.
We checked into Penzion Mayer, a traditional style family-run B&B with a beautiful garden courtyard. For dinner, we walked to the Old Bled Cellar restaurant and later enjoyed drinks by the lake, taking in the view of the castle above.
We ended the day relaxing on our deck, looking forward to more adventures tomorrow.
